  1. OSR… I really hate the Player Skill vs PC Skill argument. I have no knowledge of bomb disposal so does that mean that I am excluded from playing any character in a modern or sci fi setting that has a demolitions skill? Does any GM ever demand to know exactly how your character is going to cast that fireball?

    1. I think it really boils down to what does the player/group enjoy. If a player has a relevant real life skill, enjoys using it in game (without picking out all the flaws – always a problem when it comes to game mechanics) and the other players don’t mind either, then player skill has a relevance. If it bores the living daylights out of everyone to roleplay something they have neither skill nor interest in – well, that’s what dice are for.

      1. Players usually want the best of both worlds despite their prevailing theory of Player v PC. They use their meta-game knowledge despite any limitations of the PC, but also want to stretch the parameters of their skills to any situation.
