Hey I like this idea! Sorry I’m 6 years late. I think spell users are a bit restricted in early game due to PP limitations before they get their first multiplier (and even then high level spells are still rare). Cantrips in D&D always made things just a little better so you didn’t sit there with nothing to contribute once out of spells.
One thought I had was just adding a level 0 spell to ALL lists. Like. Make that a custom cantrip PER area of study. So you still have to learn lists to have thematic access to your cantrips. Not sure how hard that would be to balance but man it would feel great!
