Going to GenCon: What to See?

This August I will be heading to GenCon, which is one of the largest tabletop RPG conventions in the world. I am really looking forward to it, primarily to see some new and old systems being played (I’m especially eager to try out Pathfinder 2, Starfinder, and Adventures in Middle Earth). I have two questions for our RM Blog community:

For those who have been there before: Do you have any recommendations on what to do or see? I botched my first attempt to navigate the event finder system, which meant that I missed out on all the MERP sessions being offered, but there’s still lots to see and do. What would you say is a ‘don’t miss!’?

For those who aren’t going: Is there anything you’d like me to check out? I will be playing Pathfinder 2, Starfinder, Adventures in Middle Earth, probably some DnD, and I might try Numenera and/or Star Wars d6 too. If you have any booth you’d like me to check out, rules you’d like me to see in play, or anything else that I could quickly find out for you, please let me know. I will be playing and possibly GMing, but if I have time to help you out, I will.

  1. Hurin, maybe you could go as the official rep of the Rolemasterblog.com? You could post a quick daily blog here—I’ve never been myself and it would be great to get on the ground coverage with a RM/d100 perspective.

    1. Yes, is the Order of the Iron Crown still operational? It’s not too late or complicated to offer some official I.C.E. events, is it?

      1. I kept asking on the ICE forums if there were going to be any official RM/SM events at GenCon, and also repeatedly volunteered to run a few. I never got any response — which is odd, considering that JDale and some of the other people involved in the development of RMU are normally very responsive. Cory cryptically said to stay tuned. So I am guessing they have something in the works. It’s just a shame they couldn’t be in the initial schedule before the registration date, because I think some people will miss them even if they are added now.

In any case, I’ve submitted my own RM session based in Shadow World (Wastes of Zor). I’m also waiting to hear whether there are any ICE events.

  2. If you get a chance (and this should be WAY down on the list), I’d be curious to know how the Confidential rules work in play. The game’s billed as an OSR-type reboot of the James Bond RPG, which was a pretty slick Victory Games system. There’s one event using them that I saw. Even an idea of how many people were playing would be interesting.

      1. Ok, if time permits, I will try to stop by the Classified table. I can’t guarantee anything, since I am going with three other people and we’re trying to game together.

        1. Of course. I understand completely. I was just interested when I found out someone had revived that system.
